Diagnostic Test Directory

Curious about what tests the diagnostic lab can assist your team with? Take a look at all available tests using our Test & Fee Search Directory, also known as the “Test Directory”. Our search directory is a frequently updated list of most of the tests we can provide assistance for. Each available test also provides additional information on Federal rates for Stanford/Non-Stanford Clients, sample collection tips, species we can do tests on, and more.

Laboratory Sections

  • Our instrumentation is species specific, unlike particle counter instrumentations
  • Our experts manually read differential cell counts for accurate results
  •  Validated species specific reference ranges for most analytes
  • Minimum volume of sample can be 150 μL whole blood in a microtainer LTT (however the Minimum Fill Line of 250 μL is an ideal sample)
  • Our niche over other commercial reference laboratories is that we take specific care to ensure utilization of every last drop of your valuable sample
  •  Validated potential dilutions for some analytes
  • Multiple analytes from one single sample cup (i.e. a typical chemistry panel can be combined with iron, lipids, and cardiac biomarkers)
  • Large variety of Chemistry analytes available (contact us for requests)
  •  Cytospin available to concentrate low cellular count samples (PBMCs, CSF, FNA, Bronchial lavages, culture cells etc)
  • Body fluid smears evaluated by a clinical pathologist
  •  Urine chemistry results from a small quantity sample

Gram Stain, Aerobic culture, Anaerobic culture, Fungal culture, Urine culture, Blood culture, Wound/Abscess culture, Body Fluid culture, Tissue Culture

  • OmniLog: A fully rapid automated incubation and identification system for aerobic & anaerobic bacteria, yeast and filamentous fungi.
  • Aerobic or anaerobic cultures available on multiple source types. Plate counts on water other than environmental cultures.
  • Expertise in multiple species and methods for parasital detection in blood, endo and ectoparasites
  • Custom assay services are available with a consult from a medical technologist
  • A variety of RT-PCR assays are available for pathogen testing with state of the art equipment
  • Aquatic Water Testing
  • Total Plate Count, Rodac Plates and Heterotrophic Plate Count
  • Autoclave Testing
  • Sterility Testing
  • Shipping Biological Materials via Priority Overnight with FedEx
  • Assisting in locating outside labs that can perform the tests you need
  • Supplying collection tubes/media for your submissions

Available for your needs

  •  Create any combinations of analytes
  • Preplanning consultation for recommendations to yield the optimal results
  • Draw tubes, vials, or media required for analysis are available free of charge
  •  Pre-print labels prior to submission for tube ID efficiency
  •  Please contact Greg Nelson for survival bleeds or Elias Godoy for terminal bleeds.
  •  Submit a “Blood and Biosample Collection / Veterinary Technician Assistance Request” on the VSC website here
  •  Confirm with our team prior to collecting your sample with Greg or Elias that there are no restrictions for your planned submission date or time. Most samples need to be processed within 24 hours, and most outside labs cannot receive or process samples on weekends or holidays.

  •  Sample type can be heparinized arterial blood, venous blood, or mixed venous blood and Minimum Fill Volume in a 1ml syringe is 200 μL (3ml syringe= needs 800 μL sample, 5ml syringe= needs 1.5ml sample). Alternatively heparinized blood in a capillary tube is also acceptable.
  •  A Capillary tube can have a Minimum Fill Volume of only 100 μL with Capillary blood
